The silver cap at the top end of this crop is hand engraved, “Mon aime” which means “My friend” in French. This is a highly unusual crop that is sure to have an interesting past! Perhaps the owner‘s horse was named Mon aime? Or, perhaps there is a darker connotation to the inscription?
Purchased from a WWI-WWII era estate, the only known history is that it was obtained in Europe during the Wars. In addition to the silver cap, there is a sterling wire, basket weave collar on the straight, hardwood shaft, that still has a good bit of the bark, intact. The wood has a nice patina & the crop measures 32” long. The suede end piece is secured by a length of hand sewn pigskin, with a lovely, burnished shine.
This crop would make a great gift for someone who enjoys history or intrigue, or for the person who simply enjoys an unusual, good whip!
