This is a fine old antique sandwich case that would have some stories if it could talk. The sturdy leather case was made by Hayes, Cirencester. It is chamois lined.
The double hinged sandwich box is marked, “Swaine & Adeney, Ltd, London.”, which means the box was made between 1910 and 1943. It has significant pitting, as you might expect from such an old item, but is otherwise in fine shape. I don’t think the case & box were made together, as the box is slightly smaller than the case.
The case has a brand new, replaced billet strap. The top flap closure is in good shape, but the hole in the leather is slightly larger than the button, so is not as tight as would be ideal. The other straps are holding tight.
The case measures 5 1/2” x 4” x 1 3/4”. You can’t beat the price: only $299.
