This brooch was imported from Europe & is unmarked, so impossible to accurately date. However, I estimate it is early to mid 20th C, as the horse is accurately represented at a gallop. An earlier piece would depict the horse with both front & back legs stretched out.
This dramatic, domed brooch is similar to a bridle rosette pin, but it weighs about half as much as a rosette. It is gilt on blue/black glass and features a race horse. It is set in a simple brass bezel with a spring pin which closes with a simple “C” clasp. Some of the gilt details are worn, consistent with age & use, but this does not detract from its beauty.
