This is a fabulous antique fox, hunting whip & horseshoe stockpin type brooch. It appears to be silver on brass, but the silver content is not marked. The design is wonderfully detailed and is a quite unusual Victorian style.
The pin is 2 1/4” by 3/4” wide. The stickpin is almost as long and closes with a simple “C” clasp. Please note: the hinge pin must have gone missing a very long time ago. Someone cleverly replaced the hinge pin with wire, which while a little crude, is still extremely secure. The repair is not visible from the front & not easy to see from the back, but we have included a photo of it, just the same. This would be a lovely accessory for a dressage stock or informal hunting.
