This is a Victorian era beagling whip featuring a detailed, hound's head carving (antler) w glass eyes. The artist hand colored the ears, which is not often seen on these carvings. There is an opening for a leather lash wrist band. The fruitwood shaft is about 9.5" long & the entire whip is about 1' long, if including the keeper. The shaft has a beautiful patina & the keeper & binding are in excellent condition for such an old item. The unmarked white metal collar has elaborate scrolling & a blank cartouche. This is a really fine specimen in collector's condition, yet can still be used tomorrow, for walking hounds.
