A carved hound’s head (antler) tops the beautifully plaited ebony colored shaft of this 9 1/2” whip. The hound has glass eyes and was made to be a whistle - though it doesn’t work well anymore - it is still a stunning item worthy of any collection.
Beagling whips are hunt whips made to be used while hunting with foot hounds, such as Bassetts & of course, beagles. They are getting more and more rare and are hard sought after by collectors.
The plaiting - usually the first part of a whip to deteriorate - is in perfect condition. This piece has a marvelous patina, overall. The brass end piece has been damaged over time & there is no keeper for the thong, but it is otherwise intact.
