Commemorative coins of pure gold, also known as .999 gold, were designed & manufactured by the Singapore mint as part of their Lunar Calendar series. These coins were minted in 3 different different sizes, with one coin designed for each year (& animal) of the 12 year Lunar Calendar. The coin set in this ring is 1/20 of an ounce of gold, which is the smallest of the three coin sizes. It was minted in 1990, as that was The Year of the Horse.
Overall, there were not that many coins issued in this series. Perhaps because the horse is so beautiful, the year of the horse coin sold out quickly, and is now very difficult to find.
The 25 kt ring setting is beautifully made with a twisted, gold rope chain bezel. It has a wide, plain band that can easily be re sized by your jeweler, if necessary. The ring is currently a 6.5.
