This 9 kt yellow gold stockpin is signed AJH, who we believe is Alfred James How. It is hallmarked for 1964. At any rate, the AJH company, of London & Birmingham, England, designed & popularized the fox mask, running fox, horse shoe, horn & whip combination stock pins that were common during the latter part of the 19th c through the mid 20th c, in Britain. The company also made silver collars for foxhunting whips.

In keeping with AJH style, the fox head is classically detailed, as is the whip, with its rolled collar & fine wrapping above the keeper.

This stockpin is 2 3/8” long and the metal stickpin is the same length (in some vintage pins it is shorter, which can make it harder to push through a thicker stock). It closes very securely by pushing the pin into the locked position on the simple, push clasp.

As we say with all of our fine jewelry, decorative stockpins, please carry a regular bandage pin in your pocket while hunting. If you need to use your stock as a bandage in the huntfield, you probably don’t want to employ a real gold stockpin as your bandage pin!
