This fabulous & rare little brooch was made & signed by Alfred James Cheshire in 1897. It is sterling and was hallmarked in Chester. It features a detailed hound’s head - a greyhound, courser, whippet or other sight hound - a hunt whip, a lucky horse shoe and a detailed horse’s leg. The lucky 7 shoe has hand engraved details and is facing downwards in keeping with 19th c tradition. This is a rare design.
The brooch has an elongated stick pin which closes with a simple C clasp, in keeping with the design used in the mid to late 19th c. This petite little pin is only 3/4” x 1 3/8”.
