This one of a kind jumping bat or crop is the perfect gift for the show ring or pleasure rider who already has everything else! The Knobby “wood” Bone/Horn handle of this unique crop is capped with a knobby, hand engraved, Sterling Silver cap, dated 1876, Birmingham, England. The silversmith’s initial stamp is worn. It appears to be signed “JB”, which could be Joseph Bettridge, but it is too worn for positive identification. The golden bamboo shaft is 22” long, and the crop/bat is 25.5” long, including the (relatively) new black leather popper/bat end. A vintage leather hand loop was added over a small sterling collar. This crop was likely converted from an antique driving whip or side-saddle whip - probably one that was broken & the owner wanted to save the incredibly beautiful handle. This crop is as beautiful as it is useful, and would make a great conversation piece for any rider or collector.
