This unique, sterling & (now) faintly gold washed silver stock pin or brooch is made in the shape of a horse's foreleg. The beautifully & accurately detailed foreleg is decorated w "paste" glass faux diamonds & a large "paste" amethyst. While the horse leg is a classic Victorian motif, the stylized, jeweled end shows the beginning influence of Art Deco.
This brooch looks good when worn parallel, on a stock or scarf. It is equally attractive when worn perpendicular, on a scarf or lapel. It would be particularly beautiful on a dressage stock. The brooch is 2" long.
This pin secures w an early style rolling C clasp and simple hinged pin, which together w the style of the piece, date it to around 1900-1930. The pin is 2" long from hoof to amethyst & is marked "Sterling", so this is probably an American piece.
