This mid century brooch features a running horse & horse shoe in the style of a late 19th c design. It is probably brass with enamel accents. It is marked on the back, at the toe of the horse shoe, with a “U” with 2 inwardly facing arrows, which is the maker’s mark for Uncas Manufacturing. Uncas used this mark from 1918-1988. My best guess is that this brooch dates from the 1940’s to 1960’s. It is a lovely piece.
It measures approximately 1 1/2” x 1 1/2”. It fastens with a modern pin & rolling “C” type safety catch.
